I am a Human Rights Officer at a large state hospital for people with psychiatric disorders, many of whom are trauma surviors. I shared this with my Human Rights group, who listened intently and commented throughout the piece. The group is largely non verbal, and often considered too "low functioning" to participate in groups such as this. I found this interesting to say the least. Often I find the hallucinations, delusions and conversations of my patients to be fraught with trauma imagery. Their comments revolved mostly around spirituality and their sense of solidarity with other patients with whom they had been hospitalized, some for decades, even.
